Alf Wallander, attributed to: Art Nouveau vase

An Art Nouveau porcelain vase from Rörstrand and attributed to Alf Wallander. Decorated in blue and pink colours and modelled with handles shaped as two swans in typical Art Nouveau style. H 25 cm. 3 coronets mark in green and blind-stamped 1925, which is not the date but a technical technical indication. Good condition; slightly chipped on one wing.

Alf Wallander (1862–1914) was a Swedish artist, craftsman and designer, born in Stockholm. He trained at the Kungliga Akademien för de fria konsterna in 1880–85 and in Paris 1885–90. In 1895 he started working for Rörstrand, one of the most famous Swedish porcelain manufacturers, and had his breakthrough in April the following year at the exhibition of Slöjdföreningens, working in the Art Nouveau style. Wallander played a significant role in defining the Rörstrand aesthetic from the late 1890s to about 1910, inspired by the styles of other European porcelain manufactories at the time, as well as Japanese works of art, which became available to the general public in Europe from the 1850s.
