Portrait of the Meiji Empress, woodblock print, 37 x 22 cm, unsigned, late 19th century, good condition overall, slightly spotted.
The Meiji Empress, Empress Shoken (1849-1914), was the wife of Emperor Meiji of Japan. The portrait of the Empress is presented in an oval frame with an Imperial phoenix along the top edge and flowers below. She weras a lavender kimono with circular motifs and holds a folding fan with a scene of blossoming plum tree and a winding stream.
