Tomikichirō Tokuriki (1902–2000) was born in Kyoto, where he continued to work. The last of a long line of traditional-style painters, he turned early to woodblock prints and became a leader of the Kyoto Sosaku Hanga (creative prints), which emphasized the artist’s participation in the entire process of printmaking and the exploration of more modern styles and trends. However, like the classic shin hanga masters of the day, Tokuriki designed many woodcuts of landscapes and city views in the traditional manner, from which he made his living. Today he is mostly known for his shin hanga style prints.
